NACD New England Chapter President Robert Popeo Announces Five New Board Appointees

Beth Boland, Jeff Hotchkiss, Karen Kaplan, Gloria Larson and Ellen Richstone Join NACDNE to Improve Director and Board Effectiveness

BOSTON – November 20, 2012 – The National Association of Corporate Directors New England Chapter (NACDNE) today announced that the organization has appointed Beth Boland, Jeff Hotchkiss, Karen Kaplan, Gloria Larson and Ellen Richstone as new board members.

“As the economic recession begins to turn, boards still have a host of challenges that they must face,” said R. Robert Popeo, President of the NACD New England Chapter.  “I cannot think of better community leaders to join our team to support the continued growth of NACDNE’s mission.  As directors and executives, each of them has firsthand experience on how boards with effective leadership can mean the difference between a successful company and an unsuccessful one.”
 
“Growing the economy in New England and across the country requires directors to be leaders in the boardroom and the community,” said new board member Beth Boland, securities and financial institutions litigation partner at Bingham McCutchen LLP in Boston, and a commissioner of the Massachusetts Lottery Commission.  “I look forward to working with my fellow board members to promote the NACD New England Chapter’s important mission of encouraging professional excellence and self-improvement in the boardroom.”

The five new members are:

Beth BolandBeth Boland is a Partner in the Securities Litigation and Corporate Governance Group at Bingham Mccutchen, LLP.  Active on many fronts in the legal community, Beth co-chaired the Boston Bar Association (BBA) Task Force on Corporate Governance, and has served on the boards of many non-profits, including President of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts. She was recently appointed by the Governor of Massachusetts to serve on the state Lottery Commission along with the Massachusetts Treasurer. 


Jeff HotchkissJeffrey Hotchkiss is a retired President of Teradyne Inc., a $1.4 billion Boston based manufacturer of systems for the testing of electronic products. Mr. Hotchkiss is currently on the Board of Overseers for the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.  He has previously served on the board of numerous high tech start-ups in the Boston area including, Empirix, Goldwire Technology, Hammer Technology, and RSW Software.



Karen KaplanKaren Kaplan is President and a driving force behind Hill Holliday’s growth to more than $1 billion in annual billings. Karen was elected Chairman of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and President of the Massachusetts Women’s Forum. She serves on the Board of Governors of the Chief Executives’ Club of Boston, on the Board of Directors of Jobs for Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Conference for Women, and the Post Office Square Trust.



Gloria LarsonGloria Cordes Larson was named president of Bentley University in July 2007.  Previously Gloria served as co-chair of the Government Strategies Group at Foley Hoag LLP from 1996 to 2007. Under Massachusetts Governor William Weld, she was Secretary of Economic Affairs from 1993 to 1996 and Secretary of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation from 1991 to 1993.  Larson serves as a director of Unum Group and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts.



Ellen RichstoneEllen B. Richstone has extensive experience both as a Board Director and as an Operating Executive in both Public and Private Companies. Ellen was named to the Top 100 Board Diversity Candidates for Public Companies by Agenda (Parent Company Financial Times) as well as to the CFO Magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board.   She is currently either on the Board or the Adviser to the CEO on a number of companies including: ERI and OpEx Engine.
