NACD New England Announces the 2010 Director of the Year Award Winners
BOSTON (March 12, 2010) � The National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) New England Chapter today announced its winners of the 2010 Director of the Year Awards. The awards recognize excellence in public and non-profit corporate governance. �Once again this year, we received a stellar group of nominees for the Director of the Year Awards that represent a broad array of industries throughout the region,� said Bill Earon, New England Chapter President. �These award winners are individuals and a Board that are leaders in their chosen fields and role models for good corporate governance. The New England chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors said its annual awards will include honors for EMC Corp.'s board of directors and Jack Connors, chairman emeritus and a founder of Boston ad agency Hill Holliday.

We recently celebrated our Fourth Annual NACD New England Director of the Year Awards, at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. More than 400 of our region's business leaders joined us as we celebrated the accomplishments of this year's honorees:

Leadership in Non-Profit Governance - Joshua Bekenstein
Leadership in Public Corporation Governance - John O'Brien
Board of the Year - EMC Corporation
Lifetime Achievement - Jack Connors

The theme of this year's program was "Charting the Course." We all know that the past year has been tumultuous for business and our economy. Thanks to the strong leadership shown by our regional business leaders, New England's economy outperformed the national average. Calmer seas are ahead of us but this is not the time to lose our focus. In order to return to the days of growth, prosperity and a rising GNP, we must continue to have outstanding leadership in the boardroom.

The NACD provides tools to more than 10,000 directors and key executives from public, private, and nonprofit companies around the world who benefit from the expertise and leading practices established by NACD to confidently and effectively address risk and adapt to the changing business and regulatory environment. Our Chapter offers monthly educational programs and periodic in-depth sessions on many corporate board issues, including risk management, succession planning and governance and nomination. For companies whose entire boards are NACD members, we offer custom in-boardroom education. Individuals seeking certification at the highest level of governance can attend the NACD Director Professionalism course, held throughout the country. NACD can provide the tools, but the commitment comes from you, the director. There is still hard work ahead of us as we continue to build stronger boards.
